Anti-ESG and Greenwashing
Do you know greenwashing is the top growing criticism of ESG? (https://www.ube.ac.uk/whats-happening/articles/criticism-of-esg/)
"It's only a PR move ............... the concern is that organisations will be encouraged to adopt ESG to improve their reputation and standing among investors, employees and customers, only to treat it as a ‘nice-to-have’ – secondary to their real priorities."
On Wednesday 3 December 2025, Nike, Lacoste and Superdry have exaggerated the environmental benefits of their clothes, according to the U.K.’s advertising watchdog, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) which has banned a selection of ads produced by Nike, Lacoste and Superdry after finding they made misleading sustainability claims. These rulings send a clear message that advertisers must be able to back up their green claims with solid evidence, so people get fair, accurate information when they’re choosing what to buy,” said Justine Grimley, an operations manager at the ASA. From an alternative perspective, Anti-ESG might be a push to combat greenwashing?
